Every Computer Occasionally ‘Hangs’ or ‘Freezes’, But Frequent Hanging May Signal a Failing Drive:

  • If your hard drive is undetectable by the ‘BIOS’ (Basic Input / Output System) of your computer, this may indicate that the electronic disk controller is faulty
  • This could possibly be the result of a power spike or electrical surge

If this occurs, you should avoid powering the hard disk until the faulty disk controller has been repaired or replaced to prevent further damage and further data loss
